Siting and Permitting Siting is the first step in the planning of any project, and requires the correct analysis of a project location to determine the best use of the available land. Usually this process involves preparing a site map with locations of proposed buildings and work. These maps show how a project will fit into the surrounding properties, and whether there are adequate clear spaces around work areas to fit within zoning laws. Permitting involves discussions and applications with the relevant government levels and agencies to ensure that all proper laws and guidelines are followed during a project. Usually, several plans are sent to the proper authorities to be commented on. After changes that reflect opinions of these organizations are completed, the proper permits are authorized, and the project can commence.
