Erosion and Sediment Control Design: Any human activity that modifies the Earth’s surface is likely to allow soil and water to mix, resulting in muddy water leaving a project site in a process known as erosion. Erosion can affect everyone by reducing the amount of land available to a project or by undermining building foundations. Secondly, erosion can ruin prepared land surfaces, requiring additional work to prepare a site. Responsible development activities require an engineer to devise methods to minimize erosion, and eliminate sediment in runoff from a project site. Engineers can design methods, known as stormwater management practices, to produce an attractive and cost-effective method of reducing erosion. Detention ponds, constructed wetlands and slope protection are all examples of efficient and modern erosion and sediment control.
